HBTP supplied 20 units of S11-1000/25 transformers for a heavy-haul iron ore freight railway electrification in the Pilbara region, Australia. The project represents a significant deployment in the freight railway sector, requiring transformers engineered for reliable operation under demanding conditions.

Project Background

This heavy-haul railway transports iron ore from mines in the Pilbara to port facilities, with trains over 2km long carrying up to 40,000 tons. Electrification of the line reduces diesel costs and emissions, requiring robust transformers for remote desert substations along the 400km route.

Customer Requirements

25kV AC freight railway standard voltage, 1000kVA capacity, design for heavy locomotive loads, remote desert environment with high temperatures and dust, minimal maintenance requirements, and compliance with AS/NZS standards.

Quality & Testing

All units passed high-temperature and dust ingress testing for remote desert conditions. Heavy load testing verified performance under maximum locomotive demand. Standard AS/NZS 60076 electrical tests were performed.

Delivery & Installation

The 20 units were delivered to remote substation locations along the railway route, some accessible only by rail. HBTP provided installation and commissioning support across the 400km corridor.
