12 Units of S11-2000kVA/11kV Transformers for a Bulk Cargo Port in Australia
Project Overview
HBTP supplied 12 units of S11-2000/11 transformers for a bulk coal and grain export terminal expansion in Newcastle, Australia. The project represents a significant deployment in the bulk cargo port sector, requiring transformers engineered for reliable operation under demanding conditions.
Project Background
Newcastle is the world's largest coal export port, and this expansion added a new grain export terminal alongside existing coal facilities. Bulk cargo handling requires heavy motor loads for conveyors, stackers, and ship loaders, with dusty and corrosive coastal conditions.
Customer Requirements
2000kVA oil-immersed transformers, 11kV/0.4kV ratio, design for heavy motor starting loads from conveyor systems, dust and corrosion protection for bulk cargo environment, coastal salt spray resistance, and compliance with AS/NZS standards.
Our Solution
HBTP supplied its S11-series transformers, engineered specifically for bulk cargo port applications. The high-quality CRGO silicon steel core with step-lap mitered joints minimizes no-load losses, while copper windings provide enhanced short-circuit withstand capability and long service life.

Quality & Testing
All units passed dust ingress and salt spray corrosion testing. Motor starting current withstand tests verified capability for conveyor system loads. Standard electrical tests per AS/NZS 60076 were performed.
Delivery & Installation
The 12 units were delivered to the port and installed in substations across the terminal. HBTP provided commissioning support during the terminal's start-up and initial ship loading operations.
Project Outcomes
All 12 transformers were successfully energized and are operating at rated capacity. The project was completed on schedule, and the customer has reported excellent performance with no unplanned outages attributed to transformer equipment. HBTP's reliable power distribution solution has contributed to the project's overall success and operational efficiency.
