20 Units of S13-2000kVA/35kV Transformers for an LNG Receiving Terminal in South Korea
Project Overview
HBTP supplied 20 units of S13-2000/35 transformers for an LNG receiving terminal with 3 storage tanks and regasification capacity in the west coast, South Korea. The project represents a significant deployment in the LNG receiving and regasification sector, requiring transformers engineered for reliable operation under demanding conditions.
Project Background
South Korea is the world's third-largest LNG importer, with LNG accounting for over 40% of its power generation. This receiving terminal on the west coast has 3 full-containment LNG storage tanks and a regasification capacity of 5 million tons per year, supplying gas to the national pipeline network.
Customer Requirements
35kV/6.6kV distribution transformers for terminal facilities, 2000kVA capacity, S13 efficiency, seismic resistance per Korean standards, C5-M corrosion protection for coastal location, and suitability for installation near cryogenic LNG storage tanks.
Our Solution
HBTP supplied its S13-series transformers, engineered specifically for LNG receiving and regasification applications. The high-quality CRGO silicon steel core with step-lap mitered joints minimizes no-load losses, while copper windings provide enhanced short-circuit withstand capability and long service life.

Quality & Testing
All units passed seismic qualification testing per Korean KGS standards. Cryogenic environment simulation verified performance at low ambient temperatures near LNG tanks. Salt spray testing confirmed C5-M corrosion resistance for the coastal location.
Delivery & Installation
The 20 units were delivered to the port of Incheon and transported to the terminal site. HBTP provided Korean-language documentation and on-site commissioning support during the terminal's start-up phase.
Project Outcomes
All 20 transformers were successfully energized and are operating at rated capacity. The project was completed on schedule, and the customer has reported excellent performance with no unplanned outages attributed to transformer equipment. HBTP's reliable power distribution solution has contributed to the project's overall success and operational efficiency.
